Do you prefer your hair to be up or down? Down. It's really hard to keep my hair up.

Is your hair long or short? Loooong.

Do you like flared leg pants? It's okay. Although I go for skinny these days.

Do you wear shorts in the summer? Yup!

Going out is fun!

Last October 28, I went to UP Diliman with Rosie to accompany and cheer for Ate Darl as she represented AKKAP for the Area Judging of Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO). :D

The day was as lazy and as nerve-wracking as can be expected. We were praying that we be included in the top 5 so that we could enter the National Level! :D The grand prize is 50,000 pesos and of course, bragging rights. Lolz. Aside from those, meron pang iba syempre.

Ate Darl gave a wonderful 7-minute speech. I was moved to tears. Really, her account of what Kuwento Concierto, our project entry, is just so heartwarming. She talked about our patients and how we helped them improve. Ate Darl was funny coz she subtly hinted at asking donations from the judges. Hehe. And they said that they'll be donating to AKKAP. Yey! :D We really really need money since we have negative funds. Lolz.

So awarding na of the top 5. I was nervous as can be. :D Then, AKKAP was the first one to be called. Yey! We entered the Top 5!!! We got PhP 5,000 for that! Yey! May pera na ang AKKAP. Haha. :D Sabi nga namin nung una, kung hindi makasama ang AKKAP sa Top 5, manghihingi na lang kami ng donation from the winning organizations. Haha. Ganon kapulubi ang AKKAP. :P Kasi naman, whatever money we get from our sponsors, we spend din for the children, especially for the sick children at PGH. :) Parang PROPharm lang yan eh... Everything we have, we share and give back. It's like our moral and social responsibility na rin eh. :)

We went home happy. :D I was a little happier too because Ate Darl gave Rosie and I pasalubongs!!! Each of us got a Masskara Festival pasalubong. So cute! :D

That day was really tiring but it was well worth it. :)

Anyway...

I went out again today. :) My real reason was to meet Eds so I could return her Pharmacognosy old notes... But of course, there were other things to do. :)

First, I photocopied her handouts so I'd have my own copy which I'll be using this coming 2nd sem. Then, I went to E-Jim to have my mom's resume printed out. After 10 copies came out, I was out of the store as well.

I decided it was time for me to open a bank account. Which I'll be keeping a secret from my parents. Hehe. I'll use it for my business... and also to accept personal donations. Really, I'm that desperate. I need some funds for this coming 2nd semester eh. :) Alam nyo kasi, I don't ask money from my parents... As much as possible, I want all expenses to come from my pocket. Kaya eto, working hard to be self-supporting and independent. :) Ang dami kasi naming magkakapatid eh... It's too much for my parents if I'd ask money from them when I can opt not to. So I'd just ask them money if I really really need to.

Anyway, I went to BPI and opened up my own account. :) If you want to donate, just PM and I'll send you my account number. Hehe. :)

I'm so happy after doing that... Then, I went to school to meet up with Eds.

Then I went to Globe for business stuff... and ate lunch at Karate Kid. :) It was so long ago since I ate lunch all by myself. I was reading a book while eating... The book's entitled "A Perfect Husband" by Lisa Gardner.

Here's a synopsis of the book:

"Jim Beckett was everything she'd ever dreamed of...But two years after Tess married the decorated cop and bore his child, she helped put him behind bars for savagely murdering ten women. Even locked up in a maximum security prison, he vowed he would come after her and make her pay. Now the cunning killer has escaped—and the most dangerous game of all begins...

After a lifetime of fear, Tess will do something she's never done before. She's going to learn to protect her daughter and fight back, with the help of a burned-out ex-marine. As the largest manhunt four states have ever seen mobilizes to catch Beckett, the clock winds down to the terrifying reunion between husband and wife. And Tess knows that this time, her only choices are to kill—or be killed."

It's highly recommended because it's so thrilling and it tackles domestic issues. Really, nobody is just perfect. If it seems too good to be true, it really is. Behind that seemingly perfect mind might be a psychopath. Sheesh. I'd hate to be near a psycho. And I hope and pray to God I don't get one for a husband. Or maybe, just maybe, I'm just reading too many thriller-suspense-mystery novels. Lolz.

So now I'm halfway through the book... I can't wait to finish this because I really want to know what happens in the end. I'm not the type of book reader which flips to the back part to read the ending ahead... I'm the type of reader who goes cover to cover. :P Anyway, I've been reading the book for more than a day already... which is frustrating on my part because I usually finish a novel half day. :(

Btw, does any one know the game Jojo's Fashion Show? Girls, you gotta try this... It's sooo fun! :D I'm outta here... I'm gonna go play. :D

On Saying "Sorry"

Apologizing doesn't always mean that you are wrong and the other is right.

Sometimes, you just value the relationship much more than your personal ego.

Weight Issues.

I hate it.

I just can't stop eating.

Damn. :(

I'm just thankful that my friends don't comment on my weight. Coz you know, I have weight issues. Haay.

I was actually organizing my closet for days now... You know like throw everything out then put everything back in... in proper order: by color, by length, etc. etc. And I just realized that I have so many clothes that I couldn't wear anymore simply because I've gotten too big. :(

*sigh*

This is just so depressing.

And I hate it when some people rub it in. I just hate hate it.

So now, I'm going on a diet.

A real one with God's help. :)

Steph's Birthday Bash (October 22, 2008)

Eizel and I were so excited to go to Steph's Birthday Bash. :) I was already awake by 5:30 am since Eiz and I were supposed to meet up at 6:30 am. We'll be meeting Charlie at 7:30 am. Anyway, Eiz told me that morning that we're not going to meet Charlie anymore. Since I was already good to go, I went to Eizel's house instead. :D Waited for her to dress up, then we're all set! :D

FARVIEW, HERE WE COME!!!

Our ride to PhilCoA was a loooong journey. It lasted for more than an hour. First, we took a tricycle to PAGCOR. Then, we rode a jeep to Baclaran where we took a bus to SM Fairview. We saw a lot of places while in the bus. We were like touring around Metro Manila. Hehe. :D Fieldtrip!!!

We alighted at PhilCoA since that's where we're supposed to meet-up everyone. :P

It was only 9:30 am then and I badly needed to go to BPI to deposit money into someone's account. So we asked a guard where the nearest BPI was. It was near Holy Family School daw. (TRIVIA: That's where Ethel and Giselle studied during High School.) So we rode a tricycle to get there. When we got off, we heard girls screaming. Shocks. They were screaming and waving. Feeling ko artista na kami. Haha. Haha. :P I looked up at the screaming girls, and I couldn't imagine Giselle doing that, much more Ethel. *Peace!*

Anyway, we crossed the street and entered BPI. I was already at the counter when the teller told me that they don't accept deposits for the said account. I was like, "What?" Sabi ng teller, "BPI Family Savings Bank kasi kami. Di kami nagaaccept ng desposits for Bank of the Philippine Islands accounts." Sheesh. May ganon ganon pa pala sila. Akala ko kasi, basta BPI, pwede magdeposit. Hmp. Iba pala ang Family Savings. Sheesh talaga. Oh well. We went back to PhilCoA and decided to stay at McDo.

Inside McDo, Eiz and I were at first hesitant to order. But since we're going to stay long there, we decided to order something. :D Eiz ordered hash browns and apple pie. I ordered hotcakes with hot chocolate. Yum yum yum!

At around 10 am, nagtext si Joseph. Nasa PhilCoA na daw siya. "Where?" Told him that we're inside McDo. Lolz. Turns out that Joseph was at the real PhilCoA (Philippine Coconut Authority). Hehe. Sorry Joseph! :D

We rode an SM Fairview FX. "San kayo?" the driver asked. "Sa may Caltex po." "Saang Caltex?" Patay. Marami nga naman kasing Caltex. Hehe. So ayon, "Caltex Fairview po." After so many kilometers, nakababa na rin kami sa Caltex. Naghanap na kami ng yellow tricycle. Grabe, ang daming yellow tricycle. Haha. Nakakalito. So we followed Steph's instructions at tumawid kami. Sumakay kami sa yellow tricycle at sinabing "Greenview Executive Village Clubhouse." Naks. Buong buo.

Mukhang maraming laman. We caught a glimpse of a pink dress. Ah, si Steph na yun!!! :D Basta pink, si Steph yun! :D

Pumasok na kami sa loob ng clubhouse... Wow. Ang ganda. Wala pa ang lifeguard so hanggang 4 feet lang daw kami pwede magswim. NGEK. Oh well. Pumunta muna kami sa bahay kubo at kumain!!! :D Bestseller ang "Steph". Ang sarap! :D

Dumating ang pasta at kumain kami. Yey! :D Ang sarap din ng pasta. Ang daming food! :D Pagkatapos kumain, kailangang lumangoy. Para ma-burn ang calories. Hehe.

:D Daming picture moments. :D Super sarap magbabad sa pool. Hehe. Umahon din naman ako para kumain... :D Langoy langoy langoy.

Mga 4pm, umahon na ko for good. Nagshower. Wow. Fresh na fresh. Few minutes later, we decided to go to the playground area. Ooops. Haha. Sumunod sya after.

Dahil may tao sa swing... dun kami sa seesaw. :D Miss ko na maglaro sa playground... Tignan nyo na lang pics. :D Ang saya saya namin! Hehe.

Around 5pm, alis na kami. Huhu... Kami ni Eiz at Joseph, uwi na... The rest, gimik pa! :D

At ayon... few minutes after, nasa bahay na. :)

It was a really fun fun day! :D Thanks Steph! Belated Happy Birthday!

Pictures grabbed from Rea and Steph. Eizel, Randy and Ethel, post your pictures na! :D

UP's reaction to THES-QS rankings (in response to the article in Inquirer)

For Immediate Release
Contact Person:
Isabelita Reyes: Asst. Vice President for PublicAffairs
                        Director, UP System Information Office
Contact Numbers: 926-1572  0918-9091361

UP DID NOT PARTICIPATE IN THES-QS UNIVERSITY RANKINGS

In the 2008 university rankings recently released by the Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) and Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the University of the Philippines rose from 398 in 2007 to 276 this year. Ateneo de Manila University rose from 401-500 to 254. De La Salle University was ranked 415th and the University of Santo Tomas was ranked 470th.

This is the third year that such a survey has been conducted and its results given prominence by local dailies. But according to UP Vice President for Public Affairs Cristina Pantoja Hidalgo, UP has never agreed to participate in this survey. In fact, this year, President Emerlinda R. Roman did not even receive an invitation to be a part of it. Nor did she receive any questionnaire to answer.

What she did receive was an email message from QS Asia Regional Director (Asia Pacific), Mandy Mok, informing her that UP had "gone up in the rankings" for 2008. The email also contained an invitation to buy "an attractive package" from THES-QS. The "package price," which includes a banner on topuniversities. com, a full page full
color ad in Top Universities Guide 2009, and a booth at Top Universities Fair 2009, amounts to $48,930.

Since UP was not invited to participate and therefore had not provided any data, UP officials do not know where and how the figures were obtained on which the ranking was based, Hidalgo said.

"UP can hardly be expected to spend more than 2 million pesos on publicity for itself involving a survey conducted by an organization that refuses to divulge where it obtains its data," she added.

In 2007, UP was invited to participate in the survey, but when THES-QS refused to explain where it obtained the data used to determine UP's rank in the 2006 survey, university officials decided not to accept the invitation to be part of the 2007 survey. In 2006, UP was ranked No. 299, and Ateneo was ranked No. 500.

UP wrote THES-QS in July 2007, informing them of UP's decision not to be a part of the survey; and again in September 2007, requesting the organization to respect UP's decision. In response, research assistant Saad Shabir wrote back saying that if it did not receive the information it would be "forced to use last year's data or some form of average."

Surveys and rankings obviously have their usefulness. But, as the National University—status officially granted to it with its new Charter on its centennial year—UP feels
that before it agrees to participate in such an exercise, it must carefully examine the indices by which it is to be evaluated. It also needs to be convinced about the reliability of the methodology used in the exercised.

The THES-QS ranking is supposedly meant to serve as "the definitive guide to universities around the world which truly excel." In evaluating institutions it computes half of the index based on its reputation as perceived by academics (peer review 40%) and global employers (recruiter review 10%). Since it does not specify who are surveyed or what questions are asked, the methodology is problematic.

In an earlier statement released in August this year, and carried by several national dailies, UP said: "Even peers require standardized input data to review. But according to the International Ranking Systems for Universities and Institutions: A Critical Appraisal, published by BioMed Central, the Times simply asks 190,000 'experts' to list what they regard as the top 30 universities in their field of expertise without providing input data on any performance indicators (http://www.biomedce ntral.com/ 1741-7015/ 5/30).  Moreover, the survey response rate among selected experts was found to be below 1%. In other words, on the basis of possible selection biases alone, the validity of the measurement is shaky." (See Pano, "Only Two RP Unviersities Made It…" UP Newsletter, August 2007, p. 5.)

According to the statement, the other half of the index is based on such indicators as student-to faculty ratio, the number of foreign faculty and foreign students in the university, and the number of citations in internationally accredited publications. "Data for these indicators depend on the information that participating institutions submit. An institution' s index may be easily distorted if it fails to submit data for the pertinent indicators, or if it chooses not to participate."

Two local universities, the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) and the University of the Philippines (UP), saw their rankings rise in The Times Higher Education - QS (THE-QS) World University Rankings 2008, a leading global ranking of higher education institutions.

In the overall rankings released Monday, Ateneo rose from number 451 in 2007 to number 254 this year, while UP rose from 398 last year to 276.

The THE-QS World University Rankings are based on data gathered in the following categories: peer academic review, recruiter review, international faculty ratio, international student ratio, student-faculty ratio, and research citations per faculty.

Ateneo had an overall score of 48.0 out of 100, up from 30.8 last year, while UP posted a 45.9 overall score, up from 34.7 last year.

Ateneo was tied with Spain's Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, while UP was tied with Germany's Universitat Ulm and Universitat Wurzburg, and the United States' Virginia Polytechnic Institute.

The two universities also figured in the subject-specific rankings for the first time.

Ateneo and UP were both ranked in the top 100 Arts and Humanities institutions worldwide: ADMU was ranked number 79, while UP was at number 82, along with the University of Notre Dame in the US.

ADMU, UP, and another local university, De La Salle University, were also part of the 100 institutions with the highest employer review scores.

Ateneo was rank 76 in employer review, tied with the University of Western Australia, with a score of 88; UP was tied with the University of North Carolina at rank 82, with a score of 87; and DLSU was at rank 92, with a score of 84.

In the overall rankings, universities in the United States and the United Kingdom, led by Harvard University at rank 1, continue to dominate the rankings. The highest-ranked Asian university was the University of Tokyo in Japan (19),while the National University of Singapore (30) was the highest-ranked for Southeast Asia.

Meanwhile, two other Philippine institutions - the University of Santo Tomas and the De La Salle University - were part of the group ranked 401-500.

"Further down the rankings, fewer data are available to evaluate each university and the statistical appropriateness of discerning one university from the next begins to decay. Responses for institutions in our survey drop off exponentially from the top of the table, by the time it gets past 400 the results become highly sensitive to error. As a result, precise positions beyond 400, are not published," QS explained in its rankings tally in topuniversities. com.

Now in its fifth year, the research is conducted and compiled by QS Quacquarelli Symonds and features in print in Times Higher Education on 9th October and online on the QS web site www.topuniversities .com on 10th October.

After Via's Party (October 18, 2008)

Galing ako sa 18th birthday party ni Via. :) Super bongga ng mga gifts! Hehe. Naaliw ako... I didn't have a party during my 18th birthday kasi. Oh well. Tapos na yun eh. :(

I left the party early since I had a business meeting at 10pm. Hehe. :D (I'll post the business card tom... Have to scan it pa kasi.)

It's now 1:30am... Umalis si Aldrin dito ng 1:00am. Dami ko pang ieedit na pics. Umuwi muna siya so we could both get some rest.

For example, I want to remove all my pimples. Tapos may option dun na "Remove Pimples". Pagclinick mo, automatic na mawawala. Hehe. Ang galing lang. Magic! :D

Kunwari, gusto ko mawala eye bags ko. "Remove eye bags". Voila! Parang hindi napuyat... Hehe. :D Ang astig talaga!

Sabi niya, bibilhin daw niya yun kahit 10,000 pesos yun at kahit may installation fee pa na 15,000 pesos. Sulit naman daw kasi coz you'll be able to use it for a lifetime. :D

Astig talaga. Hehe. :D

My fair lady...

Do I look Chinese?

Yeah, I know. Weird question. It's just that, of all the Asian races, mapapagkamalan pa akong Chinese.

It's just that I've been asked several times by people if I'm Chinese.

I'm like, "Hello, do I look Chinese?" Lolz. Color ko pa lang ang layo na. Hahaha!

(Taga DLSU kasi sya...) But I told her, "No, I'm (proudly) from UP Manila." Naks! Syempre, di ko sinabi yung "proudly". :D

Anyway, first day of sembreak ko ngayon. Bakasyon mode.

As usual, walang magawa. Nagnail polish na lang ako ulit. :D I bought a new shade last night eh. :)

The shade is called My Fair Lady. :) It's from the Glaze collection of Bobbie. :) Tamang-tamang nagnail polish ako. May aattendan akong debut later... Alice in Wonderland ang theme. :D

At Art's Cream Gallery (October 17, 2008)

Steph visited us again. Yey! :)

Sad lang din coz she lost her phone sa MRT. Tsk tsk. Oh well, siguradong mapapalitan yun ng mas maganda! :D Hehe.

After our Ph Ch 106 final exam... Don't ask about it. Not good.

Okay, after our exam, we ate lunch first at KFC. Yummy 4-pc. Hot Wings wih extra rice for me and lots of gravy! :D That was around 2pm already. Hehe. :D

Steph arrived around 3pm... We went to Globe again... Then we strolled around like lost puppies. Lolz. I asked her if she wanted to eat ice cream, our comfort food. Sad, no reply. But we strolled some more and saw Art's Cream Gallery!!! They have this One for All wherein you get 12 scoops of their icecream on a very huge, shall we say, ice cream bowl!!! :D

Super yummy! My fave flavors are Strawberry, Raspberry, Bailey's, Chocolate, and Tiramisu! :D Super yummy! You gotta try their ice cream there! :D

At Kenny Roger's (October 15, 2008)

Steph went to UPM last Wednesday. She visited us. :D She told us that whenever she goes to UP Manila, it's as if her feet are just bringing her there. :D No control over her feet. That's good Steph. Because we miss you sooo much! :D It's just sad that Julie wasn't able to have dinner with us since she was out on a date as well! Hahaha!

We actually went to Globe first, then strolled around Rob, then ate at Kenny Roger's. :)

Hanging Out at the University Library (October 8, 2008)

Eizel exchange phones with Charlie, her boyfriend. :D Charlie got Eizel's Sony Ericsson P900 and Eizel got Charlie's Korean phone, which is so fab, btw.

So here are some *ahem* supposedly *ahem* test shots. :D

That's her phone... but most of the pictures are mine. Haha!

Sembreak! :D

Sembreak na at last. Woohoo!!! :D

The Many Faces of Monique

I went to SM Bicutan today with Mariah and my mom. Originally, just to have lunch. However, we ended up doing what we always do. SHOP. :D

And we bought lots of new makeup... yey! :D The lady at L'Oreal was very kind enough to give me a makeover. Lolz. I didn't ask for it ha. :P Natuwa ako kasi I learned a lot of new things from her... which I will apply NEXT time. :D

I'm currently loving their blush on. Sooo fab!

P.S. We bought clear contacts for Mariah too. So yeah... this is what we call freedom!!! :D

Cosmo’s sexiest men in the world: Better with age

British Cosmopolitan magazine's World's Sexiest Men survey yielded some surprising results: almost half of the top 25 guys were over 40. And four out of the top five!

Johnny Depp took the #1 spot, beating out fellow fortysomethings George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Daniel Craig as the hottest celeb. Only three men in their 20s made the list at all--Jake Gyllenhaal, James McAvoy and Justin Timberlake.

"Both George Clooney and Johnny Depp just keep getting better with age," says Lizzi Hosking of Cosmopolitan. With 55-year-old Pierce Brosnan sitting comfortably at #19 on the list, it seems ladies are enjoying the fine wines of Hollywood very much.

Take a look at the complete list and let us know: Do you think the older men in Hollywood are sexier than the younger generation?

Internship + New Contacts

First of all, I feel sad. I applied for manufacturing internship for the 1st batch of the internship program of Pacific Healthcare Phils, Inc. last month. However, I received an email just today telling me that they already selected 2 interns. Good thing is, they'll be considering me for the 2nd batch of the internship program which is from November to December. :) I hope I'll be considered coz I want to finish my manufacturing pharmacy internship before the summer vacation next year. :D

So that leaves me relatively free this coming sembreak. I'll do other things instead. Hehe. Sayang kasi, Pacific Healthcare Phils, Inc. wanted interns ASAP eh. I told them I'll be starting on the 20th pa. Kasi naman, may finals pa kasi. Oh well, I hope I'll be considered talaga for the 2nd batch. I soooo want to complete this internship program na kasi.

Neway, I got exempted pala from taking the finals in Ph Ch 106.1. Praise God! So I have to take 2 final exams this semester. One is for Ph Ch 27 Lec (October 15, 2-4pm) and the other is for Ph Ch 106 (October 17, 12-2pm).

Please pray for all of us who will be taking the final exams. :D Super haba kasi ng coverage... sana matapos namin aralin. At sana sipagin kaming aralin. Hehehe.

Btw, I went out today. :D

My agenda really was to just submit my DTR to Mercury Drug Corporation (Paranaque-Multinational Branch) where I had my community internship last summer. (I know, uber late ng pagpass!) I was very glad to see all of them again. They're such friendly people. And though the PAs told me that I got healthier (in my understanding, that means I'm super fat), the manager managed to make me smile by telling me that I'm getting prettier! :D Hehe. A simple compliment from someone who had been like my mother during the summer was very heartwarming. :D

After that, I went to SM Sucat. I bought chocolates for my mom, and I went around looking for cheap contacts. :D My old glasses doesn't suit my needs anymore... and I've been having visual acuity problems. So I went to Ideal Vision and asked regarding their contact lens. Clear contacts costs PhP 398 with FREE cleaning solution and FREE consultation. :) I went to Executive Optical and they gave me a price which is close to 600. And that's exclusive of contact lens cleaning solution. Obviously, the best choice was to buy one from Ideal Vision. I actually bought my glasses there too last year. :)

Boo!

Here's my Optical Rx:
L: -3.50
R: -3.00-75x170

Before, it was:
L & R: -2.50

Waah. :(

Oh well... At least I now have almost perfect vision, with contact lens of course. Since Dr. Luz is such a good lady, who treats me like her daughter, she gave me big discounts since I already upgraded my lens! :D Thanks Doc!

Today is very happy day.

Now, I'm going to study. Wish me well! :D

Party at Malate (November 3, 2007)

This was sooo long ago. Haha.

Well, one time, my HS friends and I decided to go out. So there... dyan kami napadpad. Hehe. I miss you guys!

Nail Polish = LOVE!

Thanks to Sally Hansen Nail Color Selector (available at http://www.sallyhansen.com), I was able to make a virtual image of my hand. Hehe. :D Try nyo din! It's really fun! :D

It makes my skin look darker. Medium to Long nail length looks scary. Hehe. And squoval is the best nail shape! :D

Yesterday was a "Happy Shopping Day"

Yesterday, we had our last exam for Ph Ch 106: Pharmaceutical Biochemistry. It was sooo early... 8am-9:30am. I wasn't able to study well for it since we had an exam the previous day at 2-4pm. :P So when I got home, I was really tired and wanted to rest. And all the stuff I've been reading for the then coming exam wasn't being retained at all. I just decided to sleep. Hehe. I know, bad move. Anyway, I woke up early to study naman.

Since I wasn't able to study well and I don't want to look stressed. I just dressed up. :D Lolz. My friends thought that I was going on a date. Haha! Who goes out on a date so early in the morning? Anyway, my lovey-dove is not here... So wala akong ka-date. I just want to look beautiful. :D

So the exam was hard. Actually, more than 80+ pages kasi ang dapat mong basahin... So really impossible na matapos mo syang aralin in less than 12 hours. If I had an extra day or two, I'd probably be able to answer the exam well.

Wala akong pasok tom. :D Yey! (Thank you Lord, kahit isang subject ay may naexempt ako. Sana maexempt din ako sa Ph Ch 106.1...)

After the exam, kwentuhan muna kami ng friends ko... Then we went separate ways by 10am. I was supposed to watch the play of my "apo" for their Hum 1 class. However, when they got there, it looked like they already started. I don't wanna enter na coz I'll be passing by their stage. Kahiya naman! Haha. The entrance to the room served as their backstage as well. So ayon... I apologized to my "apo" na lang.

Since I still wasn't in the mood to go home coz there's nothing to do home, I decided to go to SM Manila. Eizel was there as well waiting for her lola. So I asked her if it was okay na samahan ko sya... Hehe. :D We strolled around... window shopping. Then around 11:30am, we spotted her lola at Starbucks. We went there first and made chika-chika. Then we had lunch at World Chicken.

OMG. They have World Chicken at SM Manila. I sooo love World Chicken. :D Super yummy! It was Eiz's first time to eat there... So we ordered grilled chicken with 2 sidings... I chose spaghetti and tuna fetuccini and the sauce on the chicken was Mornay Cheese. :D Eizel chose Asian Noodle with Potato Salad and her sauce was Mushroom sauce. :D

Since we ordered differently, asked for 2 extra plates and placed half of our share there. Hehe. So para kaming fiesta! :D We were able to try a lot of stuff. :D For only PhP159 each, super sulit and super busog! :D

After that, we strolled around SM Manila. They have some nice shops there... It's just that I don't like the place coz it's so crowded and it doesn't smell good. Really. Especially the ground floor, smells like there's a CR nearby. Lolz!

Since we're addicted to nail polish... ang tagal namin dun! :D As in... Ang dami kong gustong bilhin kaya lang I was limited by my budget. Hehe.

I bought a red nail polish... Naubos na kasi yung stock namin. Hehe. And then we saw a new shade. It's called Mojica Glaze by Bobbie. :D Ang cuuuuute! :D Eiz bought another shade of the same family...

So kahit kakalagay ko lang ng silver nail polish last Thursday, nagpalit ulit ako kahapon. Hehe. :D

It's like violet but it's frosted. It's nicer in actual. :D As in the glitters are really pretty! Parang ka-family ng Sally Hansen Diamond yung nail polish... But it's Bobbie. Uber cheaper than Sally Hansen but the

So there... I think I'm really getting obsessed over nail polish! Whenever I see a shade I like, I buy it na! :D I saw one din sa Rob one time, the brand is Orly. Kaya lang uber expensive!!! 300+ per bottle. Haay. Sa birthday ko na lang siguro. Haha. :D

Bob Ong Love Quotes

I don't really think he said all of these... Hehe. But they're circulating nationwide (just like the Doraemon quotes). :D

Read on...

"Ang pag-ibig parang imburnal... nakakatakot mahulog... at kapag nahulog ka, it's either by accident or talagang tanga ka..."

:D

I did something really really crazy today. Hehe.

Actually, matagal ko na tong plinano... As in months ago. :D Few people know about this, most don't. Secret lang kasi to dapat. Pero syempre, kailangan ko ng accomplice. Haha.

Di ko lang kasi gusto ipaalam dahil alam kong karamihan sa inyo won't approve of what I did. Alam ko super close friends tayo pero hindi ko nasabi kasi I fear that you'll really disapprove. Hehe. :D So para "go na go" sa plano... ayon, did it without telling a lot of people. Yehey!

I just feel so happy and excited at the same time. :D I can't wait to see the result of what I did. Hehe.

If you know what I'm talking about, quiet na lang. :D

It's just that I know that you will disapprove (sa idea pa lang na gagawin ko yon), kaya hindi ko na lang sinabi.

Sad.

I have a very miserable home life.

When will things get better?

I don't get my parents. I hate how things are so bleak here at home. I HAD a home. Now, it's just a house. I don't know when I'll be able to call it a home again.

Why can't they just act like normal parents? Kailangan ba pang ipakita sa kids na they're not doing well? I don't want to have a broken family. So please... maging open-minded naman sila sana pareho and discuss things.

Mama think she's carrying the weight of the world. I hate how she nags from the moment I wake up to the moment I sleep.

Sometimes, I just want to leave and not go home ever. I want to stay in school as long as I could so I could lessen my exposure to her biting and selfish words. She thinks we're not doing anything. Sheesh. Then what are we doing in school? Aren't we studying? It's just a consolation that I'm not doing bad in school. At least I have some "happy happy joy joy" moments. It's also a good thing that I have friends and super friends. Buti na lang din na there is someone who inspires me to do good things. I love you. I love all of you.

Mama thinks she's always right. But she should know better.

Why can't they act like adults and settle their problems?

Haay. Ang gulo.

Ayaw ko na magexplain.

Basta, I'm such in a bad mood.

I feel so terrible. Guilty at the same time. It's as if everything's my fault. Is it my fault that I'm the firstborn? That I'm part of a big family? Kanina, habang nagmomonologue si mama, sumagot ako. At ayon, nagalit. We're all doing our best in our own way. Tapos sobrang nagalit si mama, nagdrama. Napakaclose-minded kasi... Hindi niya makita na there is actually another way than HER way. Parang kasi siya yung isa kung friend, once she sets her mind onto something, yun na yun. As in.

I'm studying for an 8am exam tom. 10 hours to go para magaral at matulog at magpunta ng school.

I'm so sad.

How to deal with "annoying" Mass PMs

In my business account, there's this really really annoying mass PM which could not be deleted anymore by the owner. Simply because the owner is nowhere to be found. The unscrupulous person deleted her account without deleting her annoying mass PM. Since there are stupid people out there who keeps posting a reply to the mass PM, it keeps on reappearing in everyone else's inbox.

I'm actually guilty of sending mass PMs (like when I announced my new number) but I make it a habit to delete it after a few weeks. Or I just add a "PLEASE DO NOT REPLY HERE. PM ME INSTEAD." warning.

Anyway, now here's a way to deal with annoying (and recurring) PMs:

1. Go to your INBOX
2. Click PREFERENCES (just beside the RSS INFO logo)
3. You will be directed to "Inbox Settings"
4. Tick/Check "Show "Subscribe," "Pin," and "Remove" links for each item"
5. Click OK
6. Go back to INBOX
7. Look for the annoying message which you want to delete.
8. Don't click it open. Notice that there are 3 icons beside the status which stand for "Subscribe," Pin," and "Remove."
9. Click the X Button which stands for REMOVE.
10. You will be prompted if you are sure you don't want to receive updates on that particular message. Click OK.

That's it. :D Enjoy life!

The Paradox Of Our Time

A wonderful Message by George Carlin:

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space.

We've done larger things, but not better things. We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice.

We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less.

We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes.

These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill.

It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete.

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever. Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember to give a warm hug to the one next to you because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent. Remember, to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you. Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again. Give time to love, give time to speak and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

Love is a Fallacy by Max Shulman

Cool was I and logical. Keen, calculating, perspicacious, acute --- I was all of these. My brain was as powerful as a dynamo, precise as a chemist's scales, as penetrating as a scalpel. And - think of it! - I was only eighteen.

It is not often that one so young has such a giant intellect. Take, for example, Petey Bellows, my roommate at the University of Minnesota. Same age, same background, but dumb as an ox. A nice enough fellow, you understand, but nothing upstairs. Emotional type. Unstable. Impressionable. Worst of all, a faddist. Fads, I submit, are the very negation of reason. To be swept up in every new craze that comes along, to surrender oneself to idiocy just because everybody else is doing it - this, to me, is the acme of mindlessness. Not, however, to Petey.

One afternoon I found Petey lying on his bed with an expression of such distress on his face that I immediately diagnosed appendicitis. "Don't move," I said, "Don't take a laxative. I'll get a doctor."

"Raccoon," he mumbled thickly.

"Raccoon?" I said, pausing in my flight.

"I want a raccoon coat," he wailed.

I perceived that his trouble was not physical but mental. "Why do you want a raccoon coat?"

"I should have known it," he cried, pounding his temples. "I should have known they'd come back when the Charleston came back. Like a fool I spent all my money for textbooks, and now I can't get a raccoon coat."

"Can you mean," I said incredulously, "that people are actually wearing raccoon coats again?"

"In the library," I said, naming a place not frequented by Big Men on Campus.

He leaped from the bed and paced the room. "I've got to have a raccoon coat," he said passionately. "I've got to!"

"Petey, why? Look at it rationally. Raccoon coats are unsanitary. They shed. They smell bad. They weigh too much. They're unsightly. They..."

"You don't understand," he interrupted, impatiently. "It's the thing to do. Don't you want to be in the swim?"

"No," I said truthfully.

"Well, I do," he declared. "I'd give anything for a raccoon coat. Anything!"

My brain, that precision instrument, slipped into high gear. "Anything?" I asked, looking at him narrowly.

"Anything," he affirmed in ringing tones.

I stroked my chin thoughtfully. It so happened that I knew where to get my hands on a raccoon coat. My father had had one in his undergraduate days; it lay now in a trunk in the attic back home. It also happened that Petey had something I wanted. He didn't have it exactly, but at least he had first rights on it. I refer to his girl, Polly Espy.

I had long coveted Polly Espy. Let me emphasize that my desire for this young woman was not emotional in nature. She was, to be sure, a girl who excited the emotions, but I was not one to let my heart rule my head. I wanted Polly for a shrewdly calculated, entirely cerebral reason.

I was a freshman in law school. In a few years I would be out in practice. I was well aware of the importance of the right kind of wife in furthering a lawyer's career. The successful lawyers I had observed were, almost without exception, married to beautiful, gracious, intelligent women. With one omission, Polly fitted these specifications perfectly.

Beautiful she was. She was not yet of pin-up proportions, but I felt that time would supply the lack. She already had the makings.

Gracious she was. By gracious I mean full of graces. She had an erectness of carriage, an ease of bearing, a poise that clearly indicated the best of breeding. At table her manners were exquisite. I had seen her at the Kozy Kampus Korner eating the specialty of the house - a sandwich that contained scraps of pot roast, gravy, chopped nuts, and a dipper of sauerkraut - without even getting her fingers moist.

Intelligent she was not. In fact, she veered in the opposite direction. But I believed that under my guidance she would smarten up. At any rate, it was worth a try. It is, after all, easier to make a beautiful dumb girl smart than to make an ugly smart girl beautiful.

"Petey," I said, "are you in love with Polly Espy?"

"I think she's a keen kid," he replied, "but I don't know if you call it love. Why?"

"Do you," I asked, "have any kind of formal arrangement with her? I mean are you going steady or anything like that?"

"No. We see each other quite a bit, but we both have other dates. Why?"

"Is there," I asked, "any other man for whom she has a particular fondness?"

"Not that I know of. Why?"

I nodded with satisfaction. "In other words, if you were out of the picture, the field would be open. Is that right?"

"I guess so. What are you getting at?"

"Nothing, nothing," I said innocently, and took my suitcase out the closet.

"Where are you going?" asked Petey.

"Home for weekend." I threw a few things into the bag.

"Listen," he said, clutching my arm eagerly, "while you're home, you couldn't get some money from your old man, could you, and lend it to me so I can buy a raccoon coat?"

"I may do better than that," I said with a mysterious wink and closed my bag and left.

. . .

"Look," I said to Petey when I got back Monday morning. I threw open the suitcase and revealed the huge, hairy, gamy object that my father had worn in his Stutz Bearcat in 1925.

"Holy Toledo!" said Petey reverently. He plunged his hands into the raccoon coat and then his face. "Holy Toledo!" he repeated fifteen or twenty times.

"Would you like it?" I asked.

"Oh yes!" he cried, clutching the greasy pelt to him. Then a canny look came into his eyes. "What do you want for it?"

"Your girl." I said, mincing no words.

"Polly?" he said in a horrified whisper. "You want Polly?"

"That's right."

He shook his head.

I shrugged. "Okay. If you don't want to be in the swim, I guess it's your business."

I sat down in a chair and pretended to read a book, but out of the corner of my eye I kept watching Petey. He was a torn man. First, he looked at the coat with the expression of waif at a bakery window. Then he turned away and set his jaw resolutely. Then he looked back at the coat, with even more longing in his face. Then he turned away, but with not so much resolution this time. Back and forth his head swiveled, desire waxing, resolution waning. Finally he didn't turn away at all; he just stood and stared with mad lust at the coat.

"It isn't as though I was in love with Polly," he said thickly. "Or going steady or anything like that."

"That's right," I murmured.

"What's Polly to me, or me to Polly?"

"Not a thing," said I.

"It's just been a casual kick - just a few laughs, that's all."

"Try on the coat," said I.

He complied. The coat bunched high over his ears and dropped all the way down to his shoe tops. He looked like a mound of dead raccoons. "Fits fine," he said happily.

I rose from my chair. "Is it a deal?" I asked, extending my hand. He swallowed. "It's a deal," he said and shook my hand.

I had my first date with Polly the following evening. This was in the nature of a survey. I wanted to find out just how much work I had to get her mind up to the standard I required. I took her first to dinner. "Gee, that was a delish dinner," she said as we left the restaurant. Then I took her to a movie. "Gee, that was a marvy movie," she said as we left the theater. And then I took her home. "Gee, I had a sensaysh time," she said as she bade me good night.

I went back to my room with a heavy heart. I had gravely underestimated the size of my task. This girl's lack of information was terrifying. Nor would it be enough merely to supply her with information. First she had to be taught to think. This loomed as a project of no small dimensions, and at first I was tempted to give her back to Petey. But then I got to thinking about her abundant physical charms and about the way she entered a room and the way she handled a knife and fork, and I decided to make an effort.

I went about it, as in all things, systematically. I gave her a course in logic. It happened that I, as a law student, was taking a course in logic myself, so I had all the facts at my fingertips. "Polly," I said to her when I picked her up on our next date, "tonight we are going over to the Knoll and talk."

"Oo, terrif," she replied. One thing I will say for this girl: you would go far to find another so agreeable.

We went to the Knoll, the campus trysting place, and we sat down under an old oak, and she looked at me expectantly. "What are we going to talk about?" she asked.

"Logic."

She thought this over for a minute and decided she liked it. "Magnif," she said.

Logic," I said, clearing my throat, "is the science of thinking. Before we can think correctly, we must first learn to recognize the common fallacies of logic. These we will take up tonight."

"Wow-dow!" she cried, clapping her hands delightedly.

I winced, but went bravely on. "First let us examine the fallacy called Dicto Simpliciter."

"By all means," she urged, batting her lashes eagerly.

"Dicto Simpliciter means an argument based on an unqualified generalization. For example: Exercise is good. Therefore everybody should exercise."

"I agree," said Polly earnestly. "I mean exercise is wonderful. I mean it builds the body and everything."

"Polly," I said gently, "the argument is a fallacy. Exercise is good is an unqualified generalization. For instance, if you have heart disease, exercise is bad, not good. Therefore exercise is bad, not good. Many people are ordered by their doctors not to exercise. You must qualify the generalization. You must say exercise is usually good, or exercise is good for most people. Otherwise you have committed a Dicto Simpliciter. Do you see?"

"No," she confessed. "But this is marvy. Do more! Do more!"

"It will be better if you stop tugging at my sleeve," I told her, and when she desisted, I continued. "Next we take up a fallacy called Hasty Generalization. Listen carefully: You can't speak French. I can't speak French. Petey Bellows can't speak French. I must therefore conclude that nobody at the University of Minnesota can speak French."

"Really?" said Polly, amazed. "Nobody?"

I hid my exasperation. "Polly, it's a fallacy. The generalization is reached too hastily. There are too few instance to support such a conclusion."

Know any more fallacies?" she asked breathlessly. "This is more fun than dancing, even."

I fought off a wave of despair. I was getting nowhere with this girl, absolutely nowhere. Still, I am nothing if not persistent. I continued. "Next comes Post Hoc. Listen to this: Let's not take Bill on our picnic. Every time we take him out with us, it rains."

"I know somebody just like that," she exclaimed. "A girl back home - Eula Becker, her name is. It never fails. Every single time we take her on a picnic..."

"Polly," I said sharply, "it's a fallacy. Eula Becker doesn't cause the rain. She has no connection with the rain. You are guilty of Post Hoc if you blame Eula Becker."

"I'll never do it again," she promised contritely. "Are you mad at me?"

I sighed deeply. "No, Polly, I'm not mad."

"Then tell me some more fallacies."

"All right. Let's try Contradictory Premises."

"Yes, let's," she chirped, blinking her eyes happily.

I frowned, but plunged ahead. "Here's an example of Contradictory Premises: If God can do anything, can He make a stone so heavy that He won't be able to lift it?"

"Of course," she replied promptly.

"But if He can do anything, He can lift the stone," I pointed out.

"Yeah," she said thoughtfully. "Well, then I guess He can't make the stone."

"But He can do anything," I reminded her.

She scratched her pretty, empty head. "I'm all confused," she admitted.

"Of course you are. Because when the premises of an argument contradict each other, there can be no argument. If there is an irresistible force, there can be no immovable object. If there is an immovable object, there can be no irresistible force. Get it?"

"Tell me more of this keen stuff," she said eagerly.

I consulted my watch. "I think we'd better call it a night. I'll take you home now, and you go over all the things you've learned. We'll have another session tomorrow night."

I deposited her at the girls' dormitory, where she assured me that she had had a perfectly terrif evening, and I went glumly home to my room. Petey lay snoring in his bed, the raccoon coat huddled like a great hairy beast at his feet. For a moment I considered waking him and telling him that he could have his girl back. It seemed clear that my project was doomed to failure. The girl simply had a logic-proof head.

But then I reconsidered. I had wasted one evening; I might as well waste another. Who knew? Maybe somewhere in the extinct crater of her mind, a few embers still smoldered. Maybe somehow I could fan them into flame. Admittedly it was not a prospect fraught with hope, but I decided to give it one more try.

Seated under the oak the next evening I said, "Our first fallacy tonight is called Ad Misericordiam."

She quivered with delight.

"Listen closely," I said. "A man applies for a job. When the boss asks him what his qualifications are, he has a wife and six children at home, the wife is a helpless cripple, the children have nothing to eat, no clothes to wear, no shoes on their feet, there are no beds in the house, no coal in the cellar, and winter is coming."

A tear rolled down each of Polly's pink cheeks. "Oh, this is awful, awful," she sobbed.

"Yes, it's awful," I agreed, "but it's no argument. The man never answered the boss's question about his qualifications. Instead he appealed to the boss's sympathy. He committed the fallacy of Ad Misericordiam. Do you understand?"

"Have you got a handkerchief?" she blubbered.

I handed her a handkerchief and tried to keep from screaming while she wiped her eyes. "Next," I said in a carefully controlled tone, "we will discuss False Analogy. Here is an example: Students should be allowed to look at their textbooks during examination. After all, surgeons have X rays to guide them during an operation, lawyers have briefs to guide them during a trial, carpenters have blueprints to guide them when they are building a house. Why, then, shouldn't students be allowed to look at their textbooks during examination?"

"There now," she said enthusiastically, "is the most marvy idea I've heard in years."

"Polly," I said testily, "the argument is all wrong. Doctors, lawyers, and carpenters aren't taking a test to see how much they have learned, but students are. The situations are altogether different, and you can't make an analogy between them."

"I still think it's a good idea," said Polly.

"Nuts," I muttered. Doggedly I pressed on. "Next we'll try Hypothesis Contrary to Fact."

"Sounds yummy," was Polly's reaction.

"Listen: If Madame Curie had not happened to leave a photographic plate in a drawer with a chunk of pitchblende, the world today would not know about radium."

"True, true," said Polly, nodding her head "Did you see the movie? Oh, it just knocked me out. That Walter Pidgeon is so dreamy. I mean he fractures me."

"If you can forget Mr. Pidgeon for a moment," I said coldly, "I would like to point out that statement is a fallacy. Maybe Madame Curie would have discovered radium at some later date. Maybe somebody else would have discovered it. Maybe any number of things would have happened. You can't start with a hypothesis that is not true and then draw any supportable conclusions from it."

"They ought to put Walter Pidgeon in more pictures," said Polly, "I hardly ever see him any more."

One more chance, I decided. But just one more. There is a limit to what flesh and blood can bear. "The next fallacy is called Poisioning the Well."

"How cute!" she gurgled.

"Two men are having a debate. The first one gets up and says, 'My opponent is a notorious liar. You can't believe a word that he is going to say.' ... Now, Polly, think hard. What's wrong?"

I watched her closely as she knit her creamy brow in concentration. Suddenly a glimmer of intelligence -- the first I had seen -- came into her eyes. "It's not fair," she said with indignation. "It's not a bit fair. What chance has the second man got if the first man calls him a liar before he even begins talking?"

"Right!" I cried exultantly. "One hundred per cent right. It's not fair. The first man has poisoned the well before anybody could drink from it. He has hamstrung his opponent before he could even start ... Polly, I'm proud of you."

"Pshaw," she murmured, blushing with pleasure.

"You see, my dear, these things aren't so hard. All you have to do is concentrate. Think - examine - evaluate. Come now, let's review everything we have learned."

"Fire away," she said with an airy wave of her hand.

Heartened by the knowledge that Polly was not altogether a cretin, I began a long, patient review of all I had told her. Over and over and over again I cited instances, pointed out flaws, kept hammering away without letup. It was like digging a tunnel. At first, everything was work, sweat, and darkness. I had no idea when I would reach the light, or even if I would. But I persisted. I pounded and clawed and scraped, and finally I was rewarded. I saw a chink of light. And then the chink got bigger and the sun came pouring in and all was bright.

Five grueling nights this took, but it was worth it. I had made a logician out of Polly; I had taught her to think. My job was done. She was worthy of me at last. She was a fit wife for me, a proper hostess for many mansions, a suitable mother for my well-heeled children.

It must not be thought that I was without love for this girl. Quite the contrary. Just as Pygmalion loved the perfect woman he had fashioned, so I loved mine. I determined to acquaint her with my feelings at our very next meeting. The time had come to change our relationship from academic to romantic.

"Polly," I said when next we sat beneath our oak, "tonight we will not discuss fallacies."

"Aw, gee," she said, disappointed.

"My dear," I said, favoring her with a smile, "we have now spent five evenings together. We have gotten along splendidly. It is clear that we are well matched."

"Hasty Generalization," said Polly brightly.

"I beg your pardon," said I.

"Hasty Generalization," she repeated. "How can you say that we are well matched on the basis of only five dates?"

I chuckled with amusement. The dear child had learned her lessons well. "My dear," I said, patting her hand in a tolerant manner, "five dates is plenty. After all, you don't have to eat a whole cake to know that it's good."

"False Analogy," said Polly promptly. "I'm not a cake. I'm a girl."

I chuckled with somewhat less amusement. The dear child had learned her lessons perhaps too well. I decided to change tactics. Obviously the best approach was a simple, strong, direct declaration of love. I paused for a moment while my massive brain chose the proper word. Then I began:

"Polly, I love you. You are the whole world to me, and the moon and the stars and the constellations of outer space. Please, my darling, say that you will go steady with me, for if you will not, life will be meaningless. I will languish. I will refuse my meals. I will wander the face of the earth, a shambling, hollow-eyed hulk."

There, I thought, folding my arms, that ought to do it.

"Ad Misericordiam," said Polly.

I ground my teeth. I was not Pygmalion; I was Frankenstein, and my monster had me by the throat. Frantically I fought back the tide of panic surging through me. At all costs I had to keep cool.

"Well, Polly," I said, forcing a smile, "you certainly have learned your fallacies."

"You're darn right," she said with a vigorous nod.

"And who taught them to you, Polly?"

"You did."

"That's right. So you do owe me something, don't you, my dear? If I hadn't come along you never would have learned about fallacies."

"Hypothesis Contrary to Fact," she said instantly.

I dashed perspiration from my brow. "Polly," I croaked, "you mustn't take all these things so literally. I mean this is just classroom stuff. You know that the things you learn in school don't have anything to do with life."

"Dicto Simpliciter," she said, wagging her finger at me playfully.

That did it. I leaped to my feet, bellowing like a bull. "Will you or will you not go steady with me?"

"I will not," she replied.

"Why not?" I demanded.

"Because this afternoon I promised Petey Bellows that I would go steady with him."

I reeled back, overcome with the infamy of it. After he promised, after he made a deal, after he shook my hand! "The rat!" I shrieked, kicking up great chunks of turf. "You can't go with him, Polly. He's a liar. He's a cheat. He's a rat."

"Poisoning the Well," said Polly, "and stop shouting. I think shouting must be a fallacy too."

With an immense effort of will, I modulated my voice. "All right," I said. "You're a logician. Let's look at this thing logically. How could you choose Petey Bellows over me? Look at me --- a brilliant student, a tremendous intellectual, a man with an assured future. Look at Petey -- a knothead, a jitterbug, a guy who'll never know where his next meal is coming from. Can you give me one logical reason why you should go steady with Petey Bellows?"

"I certainly can," declared Polly. "He's got a raccoon coat."
